Itchy Rolls

The stripes that happen during silage-cutting [ brief ] and the haymaking months make such wild decoration of the valleys and drumlins , showing both the contour of the land and the pattern of the work.

But I soon remember the irritation of hay inside a shirt.

I only realised lately that these were most likely the stripes painted in Brittany in the 1890s by Roderic O'Connor.  I had assumed them to be a stylistic tic .
